Ohio Democrats Embrace the Democratic Creed

Ohio Democrats Embrace the Democratic Creed

Democratic leaders and members of the Ohio Democratic Party in west-central Ohio enthusiastically responded to the Democratic Creed.

Jim Purvis, author of Democrats 101: A Primer For Us, made a whirlwind tour of Ohio in August. Over four packed days, Jim met with Democrats in five county parties and gave presentations to the Ohio House Democratic members and candidates.

“A Hunger for Values”

The tour began with a presentation before the county party leaders of four rural counties—Miami, Logan, Champaign, and Union—in a rustic, converted barn. The audience grew more enthusiastic as Jim spoke out on the urgent need to speak from Democratic values and to create a Democratic vision for the voters. As Jim said later, “There is a real hunger out there for values, and for vision.” The Q&A that followed made it clear that Ohio Democrats are ready to follow this lead—their top question: “What can we do now?”

“Are You Angry?”

In the Ohio capital of Columbus, as a guest of the Ohio House Democratic Caucus, Jim spoke to the winners of the recent Democratic primary election. The candidates were equally excited to hear Jim delivering his message about the Democratic Creed based on Democratic values. He asked them “Are you angry?” and the response was immediate, energetic, and affirmative. “The same hunger was evident from beginning to end,” Jim said, “a real desire to look at things a new way.”

That presentation was followed on the third day by another, this time to the incumbent Democratic House members. Although the presentation was brief, the Democratic Creed and Jim’s call for Democratic values received the same eager and positive reception.

Closing the tour

Jim’s final presentation came in Warren County, southwest of Columbus. There, a large gathering of Democrats from the Warren County Democratic Party responded enthusiastically when asked “Are you angry?” The message of Democratic values and a Democratic vision triggered passionate calls for action.

Ohio Democrats have been championing the Democratic Creed across the state since the publication a year ago of Democrats 101. Earlier this year, Jim met with Democrats in the northern Ohio county of Lorain. The value-driven ideas and the Democratic Creed have been embraced across the Buckeye State by Democratic party leaders and members in county after county, and now by prominent Democratic electeds. We’re so grateful to all the Ohioans who have joined the Dems101 effort, and we’re looking forward to more from Ohio in the coming days.
